“I would describe my work as constantly evolving I don't like to get tied down by one ism of painting or drawing to experement is much more fun in my work I explore multiple topics weather it be political sexual spiritual futuristic relationships these things force me to step back evaluate what I'm doing and how I'm doing it ultimately I'm searching for my own movement 10 years 50 years into the future to bring about something revolutionary and the only way to do that is to put in the work and ask myself questions. I'm never painting paintings the paintings are painting themselves through me.”

“I started painting almost exclusively a few years ago and recently discovered encaustic art. I became captivated by the richness and intensity of this sensual medium.
As a former ceramic sculptor I found the versatility of encaustic wax particularly appealing in that it has the quality of translucent clay. There are endless techniques and innumerable materials that can be combined with encaustic wax.”

“Abstraction provides me with the freedom to explore colour, movement and the juxtaposition of them. I particularly revel in the way in which there is limited control within acrylic fluid art and especially in the inability to replicate the images. At times there is much beauty in the perceived chaos. In fluid art the master is the chemistry and physical characteristics of the paints; they have their own life and as a scientist I am constantly amazed by the creations.”

“Freedom of expression and the bold use of color compel me to create abstract works of art. Inspired by the natural beauty of the land, subtle nuances of nature, cultural aspects of life, romanticism or a specific statement that has to be made, the artistic expressions are oscillations that invite the viewer to stop, question elements and search for meanings from which answers may eventually emerge.”

“I’ve been a life long hobbyist in art, photography, sculpture and architecture, though I would still struggle with drawing Winky the Squirrel from those 70’s ads. These days I enjoy a relatively quiet life with my cats on the New Hampshire Seacoast and content myself with traveling and playing with form, color and light as a way to relax.”

“Abstract painting allows me to create artwork freely and on my own terms. There is no concrete goal or end-result when I begin a painting, nor is there an intended message, statement or meaning. My enjoyment of abstract painting derives from its simplest aspect: the physical, meditative, rewarding process of pouring liquid onto a surface and turning it into something that, I hope, is interesting to myself and others.”

“I am an avid photographer and spend a lot of time searching for the abstract in the mundane which involves looking at everyday objects or scenes and focusing on their shapes, colors, textures, and other visual elements, rather than their practical function or context. By doing so, one can discover unexpected beauty and patterns in ordinary things, and appreciate the aesthetic value of their abstract qualities. This process of seeing the world with a fresh perspective and an open mind can enhance one's creativity and appreciation of our surroundings.”

"It’s not so much what to paint as how to paint, the ‘how’ being the significant form. The emphasis on the actual process of making a painting.
A dialogue with the grammar, the language of painting. The laws of chance. Natural and unreasonable order just held in check. Fragments of a voluptuous world. An approach that concentrates on the study of consciousness and the objects of direct experience. Neither of which benefits from narrow definition, the truth is in the dialogue and this is constantly changing, as conversations do. A rapport between painter and canvas. An invitation to the viewer to participate. To expose the guts of the process.
It’s about what can be done with the stuff, the paint. You’ve got to be madly in love with the stuff!”

My inspiration for art is through my observations of life and the environment around me. The responses within me manifest as excitement and creativity. The passions I bring to my work are the forces that move my internal idea from concept to completion. I see creativity as an inward experience and process. I believe we can all imagine an outward creation, where we mold our individual environments in new and limitless ways.

“Doing abstracts usually involves several layers of paint on the canvas before I start the creative process of finding the actual picture inside them.
Removing parts of them, enhancing the details that speak to me and adding new areas until I have a unity that pleases me.
I can never be sure where this treasure hunt approach will take me — which rewards my curiosity. Of course some ideas demand being pursued with a lot more deliberation. But that's a different story.”

“I have no formal training in painting. I began painting in the summer of 2019 after a traumatic event meant I had to stop working and go on extended sick leave. I just felt a great need to get out what I was feeling in a creative way and that ended up being painting. Basically, I paint what I am feeling at the time.
The process is very fluid. I do not go in with a particular image in mind — just colours, strokes etc, and it forms from there. It is an extremely cathartic process and has brought me a great deal of peace.”

“The reason I have always painted abstract paintings is because When I am in nature I viscerally feel and see the combination of the colors, textures and atmosphere in nature to be abstract. When I play with these qualities from nature on canvas I want to convey a visceral feeling rather than a realistic landscape. My paintings are in many private collections throughout the country including Eliza Rathbone, former Chief Curator at The Phillips Collection.”
