The KAC GFA
SOLO Artist Exhibition
Welcome to the KAC GFA SOLO Artist exhibition, a monthly rotation of talented artists and their dynamic works.
They will come from all varieties of artistic disciplines and share their unique visual perspectives and editorials to wider audiences.
The KAC GFA introduces our inaugural SOLO ARTIST, Chris KOZEL, an interdisciplinary artist based in New York City with a studio in New Jersey.
Chris KOZEL
Chris KOZEL is an interdisciplinary artist based in New York City and has a studio in New Jersey.
Her relationship with marble and various stones plays with resistance and non-resistance. Her sculptures are unique explorations of texture, form and the “soul” of a rock. Each stone wears the “scars” and discoveries that went into its making, as she often leaves chisel grooves and marks on the final forms. Having grown up on the eastern shores of Long Island, her pieces areinformed by the sea. Her sculptures often appear as ritual objects and vestiges.
Chris Kozel is the recipient of several awards, including Allied Artists of America, Josephine B. Sandor Memorial Award, The Art Students League of New York Award as well as The Harriet Soboloff Riemer ArtsScholarship. Prior to her interest in stone, Chris studied painting, art history and design at Syracuse University and at SUNY New Paltz. She spent many summers learning marble carving in Tinos, Greece and Pietrasanta, Italy.
